Women’s History Month is an opportunity to celebrate women and their contributions to both our work and personal lives. The women at Original Shift solve difficult problems inherent in the work we do. We honor our women for their strength, grace under pressure, and leadership benefiting our customers, team members and communities.
“A woman is like a teabag—you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.”– Eleanor Roosevelt
The Women of Original Shift
In the information technology consulting space, only 17% of employees are women (according to zippia.com). Even fewer hold leadership positions. Original Shift stands out as an organization with a woman as a co-founder and CEO. That representation at the highest level contributes to our company’s dedication to inclusivity and representation. In three short years, Original Shift has grown from 12% female representation to nearly 40%!
4 Ways We Support Women
Black Girls Code
An organization with a vision “to increase the number of women of color in the digital space by empowering girls of color ages 7 to 17 to become innovators in STEM fields, leaders in their communities, and builders of their own futures through exposure to computer science and technology.” Believing in the importance of inclusion and representation in STEM, Original Shift has donated and matched employee donations to Black Girls Code.
Never has this been more important as our women face the reality of an increasing domestic workload. Original Shift gives its employees the time and space to balance work and family beyond being at a desk from 9 to 5. That includes flexible work hours, time allocated for child care, and unlimited PTO.
Women often lack the access to leadership that’s needed for visibility in the organization and mentorship to grow into leaders themselves. Original Shift set-up a mentorship program for all employees, which includes matching women with senior leaders.
Coinciding with Women’s History Month, Original Shift started a Women’s Group to create a safe and supportive environment. Women can use the group for developing relationships, sharing experiences and resources, navigating work and life, and celebrating milestones.

“Don’t be content to work around the edges of your profession. Don’t wait to be invited to important meetings or ask to work on crucial assignments. Instead, do what it takes to ensure that you’re in the middle of your business. Speak up. Volunteer. Show your enthusiasm. Knock on doors. As an employee, your enthusiasm will make your job more interesting and get you noticed. As a manager, your passion will inspire others to join your team and work as hard as you to accomplish great things.”– Mary T. Barra, CEO of General Motors
